CRIME Father kills 6-month-old baby in Ogun

Asix-month-old baby has been reportedly killed by its father at Obada area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the baby, Precious Koku, was killed “intentionally” by her father, Andrew Koku as she was said to be hale and hearty by her mother.

According to the police spokesman, the mother, Omowumi Teleda, reported at Adigbe Divisional headquarters that “she left the house to see her a child she had with her ex-husband and left the six-month-old baby behind with the father, only for her to come back and meet the dead body of the child.

“She explained that the baby was hale and hearty before she left home and within an hour of her outing, the baby was dead. This made her to strongly suspect her husband who happened to be the only person with the baby.

“Upon her complaint, the DPO Adigbe Division CSP Sunday Oladipo detailed police detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested on the 24th of December.”

On interrogation, Oyeyemi disclosed that “the suspect confessed to the crime but claimed to be suspecting that his wife wanted to leave him for her ex-husband and that if that should happened, he will not be able to take care of the baby and that was why he decided to kill the child.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
