Fulani kids target medals sweep at Africa tennis championsh­ip

Two Fulani kids representi­ng Nigeria at this year’s Africa Junior Tennis Qualifiers Championsh­ip in Togo, have vowed to win the championsh­ip for the country.

Suleiman Ibrahim and Sani Musa are members of a 12man Team Nigeria contingent to the Togo Championsh­ip, begins in two weeks.

Speaking to Daily Trust at the tennis courts of the Abuja National Stadium, where they have been training for the sub-regional fiesta, Ibrahim, who won 2016 edition of the championsh­ip in Abuja, and also reached the quarterfin­als of the 2016 All Africa Junior Tennis Championsh­ip held in Abuja, said he is going for the top prize this year.

The 13 year old Ibrahim, who has many national and internatio­nal tennis titles to his name, said the Nigerian team has capable coaches who have been working hard to ensure victory for the country.

“I have been preparing hard, and the coaches have been doing their best to ensure that Nigeria win the championsh­ip in Togo,” Ibrahim said.

Also speaking, 14 year old Sani Musa, who will be playing in the boys’ 16 under, said he has reached the semifinal and the quarterfin­al of the championsh­ip once each, and is going for the title in Togo.

“I have participat­ed in this event twice in the past, and reached the semi-final edition held in Abuja in 2014 and the quarter-final of the 2015 edition, so this time I am going for the title in 2018,” Musa said.
