ICAN signs agreement with Malaysian university
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a leading Malaysian management university, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
The MOU was signed at a ceremony held at EDC, Sintok, Malaysia where the Malaysia District of ICAN was inaugurated with a Nigerian lecturer in UUM, Dr. Oluwatoyin Popoola as the District Chairman.
Signing the MOU, ICAN President, Ismaila Zakari, said for sustainable personal and national development, there is urgent need for collaboration between professional and academics.
He disclosed that establishing functional relationship with academic institutions and related bodies within and outside Nigeria is one of the cornerstones of ICAN’s desire to enhance professionalism and contribute its quota to national development.
In his speech, the UUM’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Ishak commended ICAN for being willing to start active mutually beneficial relationship with “the foremost Eminent Management University in Malaysia”.
“We’re the flagship university for business and management courses in Malaysia. We’ve won several awards at national and international levels. We’re oversubscribed by applicants and only admit top students.
“It’s our pleasure to collaborate with ICAN, a leading professional body in Nigeria, in the areas of academic and professional development”, the ViceChancellor said.
Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia, Alhaji Nurudeen Mohammed, while speaking at the ceremony, urged both parties to make best use of the opportunities in the signed MOU.
He noted that the event is another testimony and boost to bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Malaysia.
