CITY NEWS Prophetess, one other in Ekiti police net over 3 girls in Libya slave camp

- From Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti

A woman said to be prophetess in Ekiti State, Omoseeke Komolafe, and an accomplice, Dada Ogundare, are being detained at the Ekiti State police headquarters in connection with trafficking three girls into slavery in Libya.

Komolafe was alleged to have collected money from the girls’ parents, which she gave to Ogundare who allegedly facilitated the girls’ trip to the African country.

Lamenting their ordeal yesterday at the Ekiti State police headquarters, the girls’ parents claimed that their daughters were taken away from Nigeria on November 25 by road to Libya to work as slaves, contrary to the suspects’ promise that the girls were headed for Dubai courtesy of work slots from some political leaders.

But the suspects pleaded that they only innocently assisted the young ladies, one of whom was pregnant, to seek employment outside the country without knowing they would end up as slaves in Libya.

The parents lamented that their efforts to ensure that their children return home were not successful as the traffickers in Libya demanded a N1.2 million ransom before they would free their captives.

One of the parents, Mrs Margaret Olorunfemi, revealed that she and Prophetess Komolafe were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the same ward in Ikere-Ekiti as the Ekiti State deputy governor.

Mrs Olorunfemi stated that the prophet had told her daughter that the deputy governor had awarded four slots to be given to children of party members in his ward to travel to Dubai, but the beneficiaries would have to provide N150,000 to facilitate the trip.

The woman said she complied and her daughter proceeded on the trip to Dubai, as she was made to believe, but was worried when she did not hear from the girl until December 10 when she was told that her daughter was in a slave camp in Libya.
