Youth cautioned on choice of mentors

- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

Youths in Anambra State have been warned to be wary in their choice of people they look upto as mentors.

Speaking during the 2nd National Youth Convention of Umueze Youth Council (UYC) to mark this year’s summit, Col Osita Okoye, a guest lecturer, noted that most of those who come home to display stupendous wealth are of questionable integrity.

He described them as jobless people who ran into sudden wealth, and as such try to use it to garner acceptability in the society through irrational spending.

He said, “In this Isuofia, there are only few people who you can take as your role model. People like Soludo (former CBN governor) who worked hard to climb the ladder of life.

Another speaker, Mr Uchenna Obiakor charged the youth on the need to be steadfast in their aspiration and study studiously. He said that only hard work can guarantee success.

He charged the youths to understudy those who are in the profession they have flair for, and use them as role models and not just anyone who had cash to spend.

“The real successful people we have in this community do not spend their money the way these other poor people who pose as rich men do. While the successful man has 10 million and is afraid of spending a million, these other people spend the only million they have, just to impress others,” he explained.
