2 men remanded over rape of minors in Ibadan

A sexagenari­an and a 25-yearold man have been remanded in prison for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of two minors in Ibadan.

Sahibu Ameed, 65 was accused of raping a 13-yearold girl while, David Jacob, 25 was alleged to have raped a 16-year-old girl.

Magistrate Olajumoke Akande of an Iyaganku Magistrate­s’ Court sitting in Ibadan remanded Ameed in prison pending the outcome of the case file at the state Directorat­e of Public Prosecutio­n (DPP) as she said her court does not have jurisdicti­on to try the case.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Jan. 19. for mention.

The Prosecutor , Sgt. Femi Omilana told the court that the offence was committed between August to December 2017 at Ago Tapa street, Mokola, Ibadan.

Omilana said the victim lived on the same street with Ameed.

Also, Magistrate Oluwayemis­i Enilolobo of the same court ordered the remand of Jacob after she held that her court lacked jurisdicti­on to adjudicate on the matter adjourned the case till Jan.12 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the accused allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the teenager without her consent.

Adegbite said, “The defendant, Jacob, happens to be one of the customers who patronised the food canteen operated by the elder brother of the victim, where she helps him to sell food.

“David was alleged to have invited the victim to his house where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent on December 18, 2017 at about 12 noon at Olonde Estate, Ibadan,” Adegbite said. (NAN)
