- From Hope Abah, Makurdi

The Police in Benue State have killed three suspected armed robbers during a gun battle in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman for Benue State Police Command, Moses Yamu, said the raid on the suspected robbers was carried out few days ago based on a tip off that a gang specialised in robbery and kidnapping around Katsina Ala-AbajiTakum axis was hiding within the vicinity.

Yamu also said that the gang was believed to be responsible for the attack on Abaji police station some time ago where they allegedly killed a police sergeant and carted away his rifle.

He added that based on the information, a combined team of Operation Zenda crack squad led by SP Justine Gberindyer stormed the hoodlums hideout. He said the hoodlums opened fire on sighting the team and in the ensuing gun duel, three members of the gang who were fatally hit by bullets, were apprehended and rushed to hospital where they were confirmed dead.

The PPRO listed items recovered from them to include, one AK47 rifle with breech No. M35085; four AK47 magazines with 127 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition; charms and a bag containing some clothes.

He expressed the command’s appreciation for the cooperation of law abiding citizens of the state and appealed to them to report all suspicious activities around them to the police.
