Reconciling Gov Abubakar, Dogara a priority – Bauchi APC

- From Balarabe Alkassim, Bauchi

The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that reconciling Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, some lawmakers and aggrieved party members in the state is a priority.

This position was stated by the state APC Legal Adviser, Barrister Lawal Ibrahim, who said the reconciliation effort was in the interest of the APC and the people of Bauchi State.

He added that it was an issue which must be pursued and sustained for the party to face emerging challenges ahead of 2019.

Lawal, who is also the state chapter chairman of a special committee set up to investigate the spate of blames and counteraccusations among the disputing camps, said the committee was not focusing on who was to blame, but rather, that it was aimed at ensuring a truce.

He said the committee was also to ensure that all members of the party worked together towards the success of the party and all its candidates in the 2019 polls.

The national headquarters of the APC had last year intervened in the Bauchi crisis through a high powered committee led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

The committee had on it four former governors and it interacted with relevant party members and recommended that all the parties in the crisis must toe the line of peace.

“Therefore, we can say there is already a technical reconciliation achieved. We are now looking into the details of the physical reconciliation to consolidate the level of brotherhood, tolerance and spirit of forgiveness exhibited by the parties,” Lawal said.

“We cannot afford to go to the polls with an epileptic and disunited house. If our gladiators are working at cross purposes or decide to oppose one another, certainly, it is the party and the people of Bauchi State that will bear the bruises,” he said.

After over two years of a sour relationship, Gov. Abubakar recently attended the 50th anniversary of the speaker.

He also sent a delegation led by his deputy, Engineer Nuhu Gidado, to the reception held in honour of the speaker at his village, Gwaranga, in Bogoro Local Government Area.
