10 die in Ogun road crash

Ten people were killed in a road accident in early hours of Tuesday in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The accident occurred around Alapako axis of the road, involved a Ford bus and an IVECO truck belonging to Dangote company.

It was learnt that the bus which was moving in the direction of Ibadan tried to overtake other vehicles near a road diversion and in the process, collided head on with the Dangote truck bearing cement.

Witnesses said that for nearly an hour, the victims got trapped and groaned to death.

According to the Route Commander and Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps( FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, it was a crane that was hurried to the scene by a constructi­on firm, RCC, at the request of the FRSC that untangled the mangled bus from the truck and made it possible to evacuate the remains of the dead.

Okpe in her release on behalf of the State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, stated that the dead were seven males and three females.

She added that the lone survivor was taken to IfePlus Hospital in Ogunmakin while the remains of the dead were kept at FOS morgue, Ipara, Ogun State.

She said the FRSC rescue team recovered a total of N151,340 and 10 mobile phones from the accident scene.
