Day-old baby stolen from Kaduna hospital

Aday old baby boy was on Wednesday stolen by an unknown woman at Yusuf Dantsoho hospital in Tudun-Wada, Kaduna.

The baby was declared missing shortly after he was delivered by his deaf and dumb mother, Salamatu Kabiru, who went through cesarean section. It was gathered that the baby’s father, Kabiru Abubakar, is also deaf and dumb.

A source in the hospital told our reporter that the woman who stole the baby had been in the hospital since 4pm before the delivery of the baby and pretended to be a relative of the woman.

“After the delivery, she picked up the baby in pretense of showing him to other members of the family outside the ward and that was how she disappeared with the baby,” the source said.

The source also said that the same woman had earlier attempted to collect a baby from another woman in the hospital but was resisted before she succeeded in carrying the new born baby.

A cousin to the baby’s father, Bashir said that the woman who perpetrated the evil act was dressed in hijab. “Both parents of the baby are deaf and dumb and this is their second baby,” the source said.

The Kaduna state police spokesperson, ASP Mukhtar Aliyu, said investigation into the matter had commenced.

“The matron of the hospital and father of the baby reported the incident to our area command on Wednesday at 11pm,” he said.
