Police arrest 2 cultists with gun after failed operation

The police in Edo State have arrested two members of the Eiye cult group over alleged cultism and robbery in Benin City.

It was gathered that the duo of Edo Nosamudian­a and Anthony Osaze were arrested at Ute quarters in Benin metropolis with a cut to size single barrel gun after a failed operation while other members of the group escaped.

Speaking with our reporter, the Public Relations Officer, AIG Zone 5, Headquarte­rs, Benin, Emeka Iheanacho, said they were arrested by the zonal anti-robbery squad on January 5th while on routine patrol following a distress call from a concerned citizen about the robbery operation at Ute quarters.

He said the police responded swiftly to the area and arrested the suspects who were dispossess­ing members of the public of their belongings.

According to him, the suspects who claimed to be members Eiye cult group confessed to have gone to Ute quarters on a revenge mission against another cult group alleged to be responsibl­e for the death of one of their members during the cult groups’ clash on January 2.

Iheanacho said when the suspects got to Ute quarters and could not find their target at home, they resorted to criminal activities by robbing innocent persons in the area of their handsets, cash and other valuables.

He said investigat­ion is ongoing while efforts are on to arrest other fleeing members of the group.
