Wike, Gaidam donate to injured, fallen heroes families Yahaya Bello, Ganduje, El-Rufai, others canvass support

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday ordered the immediate release of N100m to the legionnair­es in the state.

The governor who made the donation at this year’s Armed Forces Remembranc­e Day, said the money should be given to the widows to set up businesses.

He warned that Nigerians must never forget to draw from the trials and experience­s of the Civil War to avoid making mistakes that would push the country into another civil war.

The Yobe State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, donated N2.4 million to injured soldiers and families of those killed in the frontline.

The governor who made the donation in cash, handed over N500,000 each to the next of kin of three fallen heroes, while the three injured soldiers received N300,000 each.

On his part, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State said that his administra­tion would continue to support the wellbeing of families of Nigerian Army’s fallen heroes as well as retired officers who spent their lives in defense of the nation.

Governor Bello, who said this yesterday in Lokoja, during a ceremony to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembranc­e Day celebratio­n, lauded the fallen heroes, retired and serving officers of the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices and patriotism for the nation.

In Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje called for improved welfare for the ex-military men. He urged the federal government to map out modalities that would improve their wellbeing.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the wreath laying ceremony in commemorat­ion of this year’s Armed Forces Remembranc­e Day held in Dotsa village, Kumbotso local government area of Kano state, Ganduje said the wellbeing of the ex-military men needed to be improved.

Also performing the laying of wreath, in Kaduna, Governor Nasir El-Rufai appreciate­d the contributi­on of the Nigerian armed forces in the unity and security of the nation, adding that the Armed Forces Remembranc­e Day celebratio­n was a sad reminder of those who died for Nigeria.

In Ogun State, Governor Ibikunle Amosun emphasized the need for the country’s exservice men and women to be integrated into the public activities, “as they are still agile and not lazy.”

On his part, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, said the state would assist the widows of fallen heroes who fought gallantly to secure the nation.
