Two persons have burnt to death when a Sienna Space bus rammed into a trailer near Nestle water company at Abaji, on Abuja-Lokoja road yesterday.

Our reporter learnt that six other persons sustained various degrees of burns and were taken to hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abaji.

A witness said the accident happened at about 2:45pm when a Toyota Sienna with registration number JLL 333 XL rammed into a MAN Diesel trailer without registration.

He said the trailer was on motion when the back bucket suddenly pulled out and the Sienna bus coming from behind ran into it and burst into flames.

“The driver and one other person sitting in front were trapped after the car ran into the trailer and caught fire,” he said.

Our reporter who arrived some few minutes after the accident saw two burnt corpses trapped in the car, while fire service men were busy trying to put out the fire.

It was observed that men of the FRSC were also busy diverting vehicles coming from Lokoja axis to the other lane as a result of the accident.

The Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, who spoke with our reporter at the scene said the command was making effort to use an extricating machine to remove the corpses trapped in the car

He attributed the accident to speed limit violation, loss of control and tyre burst.

He said the six injured victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment and that the corpses would be taken to the mortuary after they are removed from the wreckage. A former chairman of Bwari Area Council, Peter Yohana Ushafa, has said the recent crisis which led to loss of lives and destruction of property in the area was uncalled for.

Speaking during an interview with our reporter at a funeral service of the late district head of Tukpechi, Rev. Yohana J. Luka, in Kuje on Saturday, Ushafa noted that Bwari Area Council was a fountain that God has built for everybody irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.

He said all the ethnic groups in the area had been co-existing peacefully for a very long time and there was no need to start fighting now.

He said there was need for people to love and embrace each other, stressing that killing and fighting each other would not change things in the society.

“If the crisis was as a result of cultism, all religions are against cultism. We should come out of it and face the challenges of the world. And if it is also about chieftaincy issue, let government come in and resolve the issue,” he advised.
