Attacks: Plateau no less affected than Benue -Lalong

- From Hope Abah, Makurdi

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State yesterday said in Makurdi that over the years his state and Benue have shared similar fate following the killings of at least 7000 people in each of the states.

Lalong also said both states must put aside those things which seemed to divide them and unite to foster a common cause.

He said, “What is happening to Guma, Logo and other parts of the state in Benue, Plateau also shares the same in Bassa, Jos North and Jos South which is still happening till date. Benue and Plateau alone over the years have lost 7000 people each, including both children and women to unprovoked and unexplained attacks.

“Benue and Plateau States are both together food basket of the nation. We should therefore set aside all our differences and forge ahead to find a lasting solution to our problem,” he said.

Lalong who was represented by his Commissioner of Lands and Town Planning, Barr. Festus Fwanter, said he visited to condole with the government and people of Benue state over the loss of 73 people recently killed by suspected herders.

Fwanter who led the delegation of more than 30 prominent elders of Plateau state as well as Tiv and Idoma community leaders in Jos, donated N2.5m for the well-being of the displaced people on behalf of his state government.

Responding, Governor Samuel Ortom, thanked the delegation from his Plateau counterpart and disclosed that relative peace had returned to the state.
