Plateau opens bid for reconstruction of Jos main market
The Plateau State Government yesterday opened bid for the reconstruction of the Jos main market.
The main market got burnt in 2002 and since then efforts to reconstruct it has been futile while politics was believed to be responsible for its abandonment.
But in 2016, the Plateau State Government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a UKbased company; the Roughton International London Limited in collaboration with Cynergy Associates Consortium to the tune of N230 million to commence the first phase of the redevelopment of the market.
Speaking on the occasion, the state Commissioner of Commerce, Eziekel Daju, said the government had made the reconstruction of the market one of its cardinal concerns because of its people-oriented policies.
Represented by the Permanent secretary of the ministry, Mr Samuel Ngomar, the Commissioner said the occasion was a milestone and a practical effort towards rebuilding the market.
He called on the citizens to support governor Simon Lalong at all times owing to his determination to boost the economic activities of the state, adding that the market was once an economic hub.
In his remark, the Assistant Project Manager of Roughton International Engr. Chiedu Ojidoh , assured that the company would carry out the exercise with diligence.
The two bidders are MM Attat construction Limited and Edil Belmonte Limited.
