Nyame: Court adjourns case to Feb 28
An FCT High Court in Gudu has further adjourned till February 28 the adoption of final written addresses in the trial of former governor of Taraba State Jolly Nyame.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Nyame on a 21-count charge bordering on misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1.64bn while in office.
The court had adjourned to December 4, 2017 the adoption of final written addresses, when the defence concluded its case on October 11, 2017. However, the adoption was further adjourned to yesterday at the instance of the prosecution.
At the hearing yesterday, the prosecution said it filed its final written address on Jan. 10, 2018, while the defence filed theirs since November, 2017.
Nyame’s counsel, Hassan Fagimite thereafter told the court that the defence could not file its reply on point of law because the “prosecution filed their written address out of time.’’
He also said that their time for reply was not ripe because the prosecution did not regularise the process.
The EFCC prosecutor, Henry Ejiga holding the brief of Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) blamed the delay on “personal challenges’’ he was facing.
After listening to the submissions, the trial judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko ordered parties to submit their replies on point of law before Feb. 28 for adoption.
