Bindow commended for establishing Auditor General for LGs
The signing into law of a bill passed by the state House of Assembly establishing the Office of Auditor General for Local Government by the Adamawa state governor, Sen. Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, will enhance financial prudence and accountability in the state.
The Auditor General for Local Government of the state, Alhaji Usman Hamidu, who made the assertion, said the governor signed the bill into law on January 24, this year, while the 2018 Appropriation Bill passed by the assembly has since been passed into law.
He added that N5.6 billion has been saved through public procurement savings. He said the state government
implementing e-payment is right up to the grassroots in compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standard IPSAS and is complying with the fiscal sustainability plan of the Federal Government.
Alh Hamidu said a similar bill has been passed by Governor Bindow for the state auditor general, adding that the auditor general is required by law to examine and report annually to parliament on the accounts of MDAs for which the auditor general is statutory auditor.
He said by signing the bill, the governor has empowered his office to ensure all revenues are duly collected and paid into local government funds and accurate records are kept of all monies received and disbursed.
