-

The Norsemen International, an international nongovernmental organisation, (NGO), says it will carry out a massive background check of candidates aspiring to contest the 2019 election.

Mr Chima Umealo, the Director, Investment, Sponsorship and New Patrol Development of the group, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday that the check would establish credible candidates.

“As the 2019 election approaches, I wish to state that the era of anybody mounting the rostrum of leadership in Nigeria is coming to an end,” he said.

Umealo, also the President General of Abia Union in South Africa, said that the background of each candidate would be thoroughly checked before the election while the masses are sensitized on the outcome.

“We will use mechanism at our disposal to carry out the exercise and the people will be sensitized on the outcome of the check to determine if that candidate is qualified to contest the election,” he said.

According to Umealo, the governors of Abia and Anambra states have good antecedents and great potentials given the background check on them.

He said that an assessment of President Buhari`s identifiable projects would be carried out and Nigerians informed on the outcome.

“The complete background check of all aspiring candidates is something that will take Nigerians by surprise. We must leave governance to seriousminded and mentally equipped individuals with verifiable means of livelihood.

“Nigeria will be great only when we decide to make it a reality and it is upon us to deliver Nigeria, Umealo, also an ICT entrepreneur said. (NAN)
