UniAbuja appoints new bursar

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has appointed Malam Rufai Ahmed as Bursar of the University.

The Council at its 47th extra- ordinary meeting held recently approved the recommenda­tion of the University Selection Board, which had interacted with applicants for the post and recommende­d Ahmed from a short- list of 19 applicants.

A statement by the ViceChance­llor of the university, Professor Michael Adikwu said the appointmen­t of the bursar, which was specified in the University Decree number 106 of 1992 as amended by Decree number 11 of 1993 was for a term of five years in line with the provision of the Miscellane­ous Act.

Until his appointmen­t, Ahmed was a deputy bursar with the University of Maiduguri.

Born in Gurin Adamawa State on 31st December 1964, the new bursar graduated with a B.Sc in Accountanc­y from the University of Maiduguri in 1990 and holds an MBA (Finance) from the same institutio­n (2003).

He started his career as an Accountant II with the Bursary Department Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1991 rising to Accountant 1 in 1998.

He joined the service of the University of Maiduguri as a Senior Accountant in 2001 after a stint in the private sector and remained with the university rising through the ranks until his recent appointmen­t.

Ahmed is a member of many profession­al bodies including as an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Nigeria (ICAN) and member Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountanc­y (CIPFA) London. He is married with seven children.
