- From Olatunji Omirin, Maiduguri

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umaru Garbai Elkanemi, has warned private school proprietors in Borno State to scale up the quality standard or face the closure of their schools.

The Borno monarch was speaking in Maiduguri yesterday against the backdrop of the massive education sector revamp by the state government in public schools across the state.

Represented by Director of Elkanemi College of Islamic school, Dr. Mohammed Sani Idris El Bulatoree at the commissioning of additional 14 Classrooms newly Constructed by the management of Bara’imu School, the Shehu doubted if private schools proprietors could meet up with what he described as the worldclass educational equipment procured by state government for public schools in the state.

“What the governor is doing in education sector is unprecedented not only in the history of Borno State but in the history Nigeria; I am telling you this because I am educationalist; I have taken charged of 30 schools in Nigeria so Gov. Kashim Shettima is doing what no governor has done for his people in education sector as far as this country is concerned. So it is fire coming to us as private school owners,” said Dr. Mohammed.

While commissioning the new classrooms, Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa, thanked the management of Bara’imul school for identifying with orphans and children who lost their parent as a result of insurgency and pledged to support 50 pupils with one year fees.

Earlier, Director of Bara’imul Iman Integrated Islamic School Maiduguri, Alhaji Shuiabu Abubakar said the school has offered free education to 190 children who lost their lives to insurgency.

The occasions attracted many dignitaries, including Commissioner of Education, Comr. Inuwa Kubo, Director Ministry of Women Affairs, Ya’ bawa Kolo and host others.
