AU award boosts Buhari’s anti-corruption fight – Council
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) said the appointment of President Muhammadu Buhari as Africa Union’s anti-corruption champion was a confirmation of his giant stride in the fight against corruption.
President Buhari was appointed to champion antigraft crusade across Africa during the 30th Summit of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian capital.
The National President of the council, Murtala Muhammed Garba said policies initiated under the watch of President Buhari had reduced corrupt practices in the country and recovered some looted public funds.
Garba in a statement by the council’s Media Director, Abdulrahman Zakariyau, yesterday in Abuja, also hailed the present administration for the introduction of Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the whistle blower policy, which he described as the burner of anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria.
“Corruption is identified as a major stumbling block to Nigeria and Africa’s development. So it was heart warming for the Africa Union to take anti-corruption as its theme of the just concluded 30th summit in Ethiopia.
“The theme is an indication that Africa leaders now understand that corruption is a major obstacle to development on the continent and are willing to put lasting end to it,” the statement said.
The council therefore urged the leaders to ensure total implementation of the summit’s decisions, stressing that only a genuine anti-graft crusade could bring about meaningful development in the continent.
