Nigeria won’t be used to destabilize Cameroon – Monguno
The National Security Adviser (NSA), General Mohammed Monguno (rtd) said no territory of Nigeria would be used as a staging ground to destabilize Cameroon.
He made this known yesterday in Abuja during the opening ceremony of the 6th Session of The Cameroon/ Nigeria Trans-Border Security Committee.
He said, “There should be no doubt whatsoever, of Nigeria’s support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cameroon.”
He added that,“We encourage the Cameroonian authorities to engage all aggrieved parties in a constructive manner to de-escalate tensions in Anglophone regions.”
Monguno also charged the Cameroon authorities to facilitate the return of Cameroonian refugees that have crossed the border into Nigerian territory heightened tension.
He noted that Nigeria as a signatory of most of the United Nation’s International protocols on the Rights of Refugees and their humane treatment would enforce these provisions.
In his remarks, the Cameroon Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Rene Emmanuel Sadi commended the collaborative efforts due to between Nigeria and Cameroon that decimated the Boko Haram.
He called for a review of existing laws and agreements in order to strengthen the security framework to ensure transborder and regional security.
Earlier in her remarks, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Khadija Ibrahim had called for developing common institutions to facilitate peaceful coexistence along borderlines.
