Missing policeman found as Guma records 2 more deaths

The Benue State Police Command said yesterday that it has found the Non Commission­ed Officer (NCO) who was earlier declared missing during an attack against its troops on Saturday at Yogbo community of Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Benue State Commission­er of Police, Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen in Makurdi that the officer who was being searched for returned hale and hearty and had even joined his colleagues at his primary duty post.

Owoseni said that Mopol units from 15 other states had been deployed to support the ongoing operations in Benue State while an additional deployment of police special forces trained by the military in the aspect of counter terrorism among others were also in the state.

The commission­er added that a lot of grounds occupied by the attackers had been recovered with several of those areas liberated by police who flushed out the armed elements.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Guma LGA, Anthony Shawon, who was present at the press briefing, disclosed that two more people were killed early hours of yesterday at Waku village in Guma as well as Governor Samuel Ortom’s farm in the area destroyed.

Shawon expressed surprise that despite soldiers stationed in Torkula village, an outskirt of the Guma locality, the suspected attackers could still find their way into the heart of the rural environ to cause mayhem on the innocent people and their property.

He however commended the police for addressing the problem of insufficie­nt personnel drafted to the area earlier.
