Edo gov commences privatisat­ion, commercial­isation of state-owned firms

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, inaugurate­d a 10-man Technical Committee on Privatisat­ion and Commercial­isation (TCPC), to take inventory of all nonoperati­onal enterprise­s owned by the state government and provide guidelines for their privatisat­ion and commercial­isation.

Inaugurati­ng the committee, Obaseki said it would be chaired by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

Obaseki said the mandate of the committee is to visit the sites of the state-owned enterprise­s to identify those that require urgent restructur­ing through commercial­isation, privatisat­ion or partnershi­p, urging them to carry out due diligence on the status of the identified enterprise­s.

“The committee will make recommenda­tions for the review of the TCPC law and appoint the Public Private Partnershi­p Office as a standing and ad hoc committee to facilitate the performanc­e of its functions,” he said.

The committee chairman, represente­d by the Commission­er for Wealth Creation, Cooperativ­es and Employment, Hon. Emmanuel Usoh, assured that the committee will work in line with the provisions of the law and economic agenda of the state government.
