Korea donates taekwondo equipment to FCT schools

The Korea Cultural Centre in Abuja has donated taekwondo equipment to four schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of efforts to improve the game in Nigeria.

Equipment donated were kicking pads, mitts, uniforms, thermometr­e and first aid boxes for use at the schools where taekwondo is taught.

The beneficiar­ies are Model Primary school, Maitama, L.E.A Primary School, Wuse 2 Zone 3, Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama and L.E.A Primary School, Wuse zone 1.

Presenting the equipment in Abuja yesterday, the Director of the Centre, Han Sungrae said the donation was part of the agreement the Centre reached with the FCT Universal Basic Board (UBEB).

He said the purpose of the collaborat­ion was to strengthen the bilateral relationsh­ip between the two countries and offer an opportunit­y to hatch young athletes with sound, physical and mental fitness... “who will win laurels in both national and internatio­nal tournament­s including Olympics.”

Sungrae said the Centre had signed a new partnershi­p document with FCT UBEB on ways of improving the game of Taekwondo in the nation’s capital.

Responding on behalf of FCT UBEB, Dr. Hassan Sule who commended the Korean Cultural Centre for the gesture, assured that his organisati­on will continue to partner the Centre. Education
