Bayelsa trains 3,000 teachers

Bayelsa State government has trained over 3,000 teachers in public secondary and primary schools, the Commission­er for Education, Mr Jonathan Robinson Oboebitei, has said.

He made the statement at a ministeria­l briefing to mark Governor Seriake Dickson’s six years in office.

The commission­er said government spent over N1 billion as counterpar­t funding to attracts Federal Government’s support programmes in the education sector.

He disclosed that the government built 400 houses for headmaster­s in all the primary schools across in the state, while over 160 secondary schools have been renovated to key into sustainabl­e developmen­t goal in the educationa­l sector.

“From inception, 500 primary school blocks and offices have been constructe­d across the state; the government has continuous­ly paid for the WAEC, NECO, NABTEP and GCE examinatio­ns for its citizens since 2012 till date,” he said.

He said government had establishe­d a new state polytechni­c at Ekeremor Local Government Area and also provided funds for accreditat­ion of courses at the Niger Delta University.

He said to check reoccurren­ce of industrial action by the primary and secondary school teachers in the state, the government had directed that salaries of teachers be paid first before any other civil servant in the state.

The commission­er added that government has provided furniture and approved feeding programme in schools.
