Bayelsa trains 3,000 teachers
Bayelsa State government has trained over 3,000 teachers in public secondary and primary schools, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Jonathan Robinson Oboebitei, has said.
He made the statement at a ministerial briefing to mark Governor Seriake Dickson’s six years in office.
The commissioner said government spent over N1 billion as counterpart funding to attracts Federal Government’s support programmes in the education sector.
He disclosed that the government built 400 houses for headmasters in all the primary schools across in the state, while over 160 secondary schools have been renovated to key into sustainable development goal in the educational sector.
“From inception, 500 primary school blocks and offices have been constructed across the state; the government has continuously paid for the WAEC, NECO, NABTEP and GCE examinations for its citizens since 2012 till date,” he said.
He said government had established a new state polytechnic at Ekeremor Local Government Area and also provided funds for accreditation of courses at the Niger Delta University.
He said to check reoccurrence of industrial action by the primary and secondary school teachers in the state, the government had directed that salaries of teachers be paid first before any other civil servant in the state.
The commissioner added that government has provided furniture and approved feeding programme in schools.
