Youth group raises concerns on single parenthood

- From Eyo Charles, Calabar

The national chairman of Universal Youth Fellowship in Nigeria, Mr Eno Beke Ikwen has bemoaned the rate at which young people handle their love relationship, which do not necessarily end up in marriage but single parenthood.

Speaking to journalists in Calabar, Cross River state ahead of a joint relationship retreat by his group and a marriage counselling body, Blessed Brothers and Sisters Family, tagged “2018 Singles Retreat: Relationship, Love And Marriage”, he said that it was time to harness the potentials of youth so they can handle relationships that will culminate into sustainable marriages.

Ikwen, a relationship expert and counsellor, said it was important for youth relationships to blossom and shape future generations for greater benefit of the country.

He said, “At the retreat on Valentine Day, we want to dwell on ways to go about love and relationships that can shape their lives and future generations. We want young Nigerians to achieve their vision so that it would impact the larger society.

“We will discuss on why young people go past their marriageable age even when they possess all the qualities for marriage, and still remain single,” Ikwen noted.

We will also cover the ills of late marriage and benefits of early marriage”, he said.

Ikwen was of the view that if well conducted, marriages can be used to shape a nation.
