- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Six persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in various kidnap cases in most states in the South-South and southeastern parts of the country.

The suspects, identified as Justice Timothy, 22, Akpos Livinus, 33, Daniel Allen, 27, Kelvin Alpheus, 30, David Abak and Tekena Silva, were arrested in various areas in Port Harcourt, Rivers and Bayelsa states by operatives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by ACP Abba Kyari. It was gathered that their arrest was sequel to series of complaints from members of the public to the office of the IGP on the criminal activities of the gang which, they alleged, had made life unbearable.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Moshood Jimoh, who confirmed the arrest said the gang was responsible for the abduction of one Chief Nemi Adoki, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menakeb Limited.

He said the 61-year-old man was kidnapped by the gang on December 15, 2017 while he was on his way to his office.

He said: “Chief Nemi Adoki was later released after paying the sum of N9 million as ransom on January 4, 2018 after 21 days of captivity in the creeks of Akuku-Toru LGA of Rivers State.

“Operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team IRT deployed to PH by IGP Idris Ibrahim arrested six members of the gang. They were arrested at different locations in Rivers and Bayelsa states.”

He said Timothy is the leader of the gang, and that he went about with an AK47 rifle, adding that the team also recovered two pump action guns and several rounds of ammunition from the gang.

“Timothy is responsible for the death of Mikano Abudullahi. He was in charge of negotiations. He got the sum of N1.8 million as his share from the ransom.

“Akpos Livinus is the coordinator of the gang’s operations; he is the one who arranged the weapons used and the location of the stronghold in the creeks. His share was N1.2milion,” the police spokesman added.
