Group wants Shehu Sani recalled from Senate

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

Leaders of a group, Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, yesterday, said they have initiated moves to recall the senator representing the district, Senator Shehu Sani.

Senator Sani, in a reaction, described the group as “fake”, saying they operated from a hotel because they had no valid office address.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, leader of the group, Aliyu Saidu Rigachikun, said the recall became necessary because they had enough of Senator Sani’s criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling APC.

“We the people of Kaduna Central cannot afford to wait till 2019; we are ready to correct this anomaly through recall. We hereby inform the world that we shall be exercising our available constitutional options by initiating a recall process against Senator Shehu Sani,” he said.

Rigachikun said their group would send a strong message to the people not to entrust their destiny in the hands of those who would ignore their needs in order to “appease a political godfather elsewhere.”

However, Senator Sani’s Special Adviser, Political and Ideology, Comrade Suleiman Ahmed, alleged that leaders and members of the group were “Governor Nasiru elRufai’s errand boys doing his bidding in the hope that it will buy him peace of mind.”

Ahmed said they were sponsored to distract the senator because those in Kaduna Government House were afraid of facing him in the upcoming 2019 elections, hence they resorted to recall through his boys.
