FG appoints Usman as TCN MD
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has gotten a substantive managing director 18 months after the exit of expatriate management contractor, Manitoba Hydro International Nigeria Limited, the Daily Trust reports.
The former Interim Managing Director (IMD), Mr Usman Gur Mohammed served for one year from February 1, 2017 vacated office a fortnight ago after the expiration of the ‘non extendable tenure’.
He has however been appointed as the Managing Director of TCN, this paper can confirm as he supervised the commissioning ceremony of a 100MVA transformer at Katampe substation on Monday along with the Minister of State II, Mr Suleiman Hassan Zarma.
Officials said Mr Mohammed’s appointment as substantive Managing Director came at the weekend prompting his resumption at TCN. Some of them who spoke with our reporter said, a circular was been worked on for publication as at when filing this report to officially announce the development.
Meanwhile, the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied companies (SSAEAC), TCN branch in a letter dated January 29, 2018 had appreciated Mr Mohammed who left as Interim Managing Director (IMD) on February 1, 2018 after one year in office.
The staff union had apologised for the initial resistance when the IMD assumed office in 2017 saying they did not anticipate that TCN would be rejuvenated after it decayed “under the management of inconsistent Manitoba Hydro International.”
