MACBAN supports measures of ending herders/farmers clashes
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has resolved to work with all stakeholders towards ending the crisis between herders and farmers.
This was contained in a communiqué issued yesterday at the end of its National Executive Council meeting held in Minna, Niger State.
The communiqué signed by its National Secretary Malam Baba Usman Ngelzarma Sa’id the association would support all measures aimed at ending the recurring clashes, while expressing satisfaction with the level of federal government engagements in proffering lasting solution to the matter.
It called for immediate action towards identifying and gazetting all the grazing reserves by the federal government and putting same to effective use for the pastoralists.
They said perpetuators of violent attacks against herdsmen and other citizens especially in Mambilla, Numan, Kajuru and other communities in Benue and Nasarawa states be arrested and prosecuted.
It also called the National Assembly to urgently address the contending issues in the livestock subsector to relieve the tension already created by the draconian laws put in place against its members in some states.
It also decried the continued stereotyping and ethnic profiling of her members that is further infuriating the situation and called on the media to live up to its professional and ethical standards.
