Musa’s World Cup chance now bright, says Garba Lawal

- By David Ngobua

Former international, Garba Lawal has said the chance of Ahmed Musa featuring in his second World Cup for Nigeria is bright now that the attacking winger has retraced his steps to CSKA Moscow, in Russia.

After a big money move to former English Premier League Champions, Leicester City, Musa struggled to find enough playing time.

He was subsequently loaned back to CSKA where he is currently playing regularly and scoring goals as well.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the former Roda JC of Holland player said Musa took the best decision because his position in the Super Eagles had come under threat.

“I am fully in support of Ahmed Musa’s decision to seek for regular football in his former club.

“Staying back in Leicester City where he was not playing would have put his World Cup dream in jeopardy.

“No coach will go to the World Cup with a player who is not active in his club. Now he is playing and scoring goals which is a plus for him.

“I want to advise other Super Eagles players like Kelechi Iheanacho to emulate Musa by looking elsewhere for regular football,” he said.

Lawal who represented Nigeria at the 1998 and 2002 World Cup also said he is pained by the fact that injuries have continued to hamper Isaac success’ career.

He said the burly striker would have provided the force that the Super Eagles need in their attack.

Lawal, however, said with his recent return to the Spanish league with Malaga, Success will surely flourish again.

“One player that we are missing in the Eagles attack is Isaac Success. The boy is powerful and fast,” he said.
