Self-confessed B/Haram trained killer jailed 40 years

A tribesman of Chibok in Askira Uba Local Government Area in Borno State, who was trained by the Boko Haram sect, has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonme­nt.

The Federal High Court sitting in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State found Sunday Abana, 37, guilty of ten count charges of participat­ing in Boko Haram attacks in Jabwan, Gatamarwa, Jejere, Makalama, Yimirmizhe, Kautikari, and Mbalala villages in Borno State.

Abana admitted to being initiated into the Boko Haram sect and trained in various types of weapons handling.

Also the court has sentenced to 25 years imprisonme­nt a member of the sect, who had escaped to work as security guard in Lagos.

The court convicted Babagana Ali, 25, with 25 years imprisonme­nt for participat­ing in Boko Haram activities.

Ali, from Banki, Borno State, said he was initiated into the Boko Haram sect by his father, Abubakar Baliye as a child and taught handing of different weapons.

He admitted to have participat­ed in several attacks by the insurgents on Chukun Gudu, Gamboru Ngala, Baga, Dikwa, Banki, Njintilo, among other places.

Ali, who initially admitted in his statement that he volunteere­d to kill his father after he exposed official secrets of the sect, later, denied it in court. He also said he relocated to Lagos after a lady was imposed on him for marriage.

He said he also worked in a constructi­on site with a ‘Whiteman’, and sold recharge cards in Lagos, but was arrested in 2015, while returning to Borno when he learnt of the return of peace to the state.
