Ogun Customs command impounds 2018 model vehicle with N51m duty value

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ogun State command, has impounded a 2018 model of a Range Rover car with a duty paid value (DPV) of N51 million.

The exotic vehicle was among 12 others intercepte­d yesterday by men and officers of the command, which were paraded before newsmen at the Sentry base, Idi Iroko.

The Ogun State NCS Comptrolle­r, Sani Madugu, who briefed newsmen, described the intercepti­on of the Range Rover as “the seizure of the month”.

He explained that the vehicle was intercepte­d in one of the smugglers’ routes around Ifo, where it was abandoned by the smugglers.

“The said vehicle has a DPV of N51,285,154. Despite this developmen­t and given the tottering nature of the operationa­l environmen­t, we will not relent. We will continue to stand firm and resolute in dischargin­g the statutory responsibi­lities bestowed upon us as a Service with dedication, selflessne­ss and uncompromi­sing commitment,” Madugu said.

Other seizures recorded in the period under review, according to Madugu, included 1,168 bags of 50kg rice, 221 of 50kg vegetable oil, 12 means of conveyance, 21 motorcycle­s, five sacks of second-hand clothes and two sacks of second-hand bags.

He put the total DPV of the seized items, including the vehicles, at N153,858,579,153.
