YouWiN connect: Candidates fault selection processes
“Unfortunately, you have not been selected as one of the top performers from the YouWiN! Connect Online Capacity Building...”
This is the message young Ahmad Ado Usman got after scoring 541 points out of 600 points from the six modules he had answered in the YouWiN Connect, a multimedia enterprise education initiative of the federal ministry of finance which is aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs as they plan, start and grow their businesses.
A graduate of industrial chemistry, the young entrepreneur said he has spent 30 days adhering strictly to the rules and regulations of the YouWin Connect and went through the six modules required. He earned an average 90 points per module, yet he was told he is not being selected.
According to him he had made a business plan for UT powder production and had passed the prerequisite requirements with good points.
“We were made to believe that YouWiN Connect seeks to promote entrepreneurship as a viable career option for young Nigerians which in turn will create jobs and wealth. We have done all that they have requested us to do and particularly I see myself as a beneficiary of the positive initiative only to be told that I wasn’t selected after completing everything and earning good results,” he said.
Kamilu Muhktar Zango, another candidate with a printing business plan, said he suffered similar rejection in spite of a brilliant performance with 505 points with an average 84 points per module and yet the message he got from YouWiN was heart breaking.
He said: “We have spent sleepless night studying just to make up for the requirement, and we kept getting encouraging responses as we progressed and at the end, all our hopes are being quashed without any explanation.”
Recall that the YouWiN Connect is a revival of the YouWiN initiative under which 5,000 entrepreneurs will be empowered. 700 of the beneficiaries should come from the six geopolitical zones each making 4,200 beneficiaries, while another 800 will be selected as national winners.
