Bauchi 2019 and Gov Abubakar’s mandate

- By: Abdullahi M. Umar

Nigerian politics have been made up of some set of people who want to be influencing the decisions and actions of the leaders, be it the president or governors of state, they are more like mere advisers and close to the ears of the above mentioned with much power at their disposals, known as cabals and camarillas depending on the role they’re playing with the politics and governance.

Political camarillas and cabals are groups united in some design together, usually to promote their private views or interest in an ideology, state, or other community, often by intrigue, usually unbeknown to persons outside their group. And it has been in the foreground in today’s politics and governance, Bauchi inclusive and on the spotlight.

In so many instances, there have been certain people who got themselves in a system of governance and within the same political party being engraved with an egocentric and mercenary tendencies to either enrich selves or distract and fight structures that seems not to favour them.

In Bauchi State, successive administrations had been accustomed for allowing few individuals taking sensitive decisions to favour themselves or their acolytes to the chagrin and disadvantage of the majority and the general people of the state. In some cases, they might latch onto power beyond those whom were legally and legitimately voted into power to manned the state. But at the end, they may be found wanting, depleting and siphoning the state’s treasury, leaving the masses depressed and bummed out.

Far and away, President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘’change regime’’ under the All Progressive Congress (APC) was seen as the new hope for the demoralized and downhearted people of Nigeria and Bauchi State in particular with emergence of His Excellency, Governor Muhammed Abdullahi Abubakar (Makama Babba). Today in Bauchi State under the leadership of Barrister M. A. Abubakar, the good people of the state had believed that, someone is here doing what was believed to be hankering and yearning for the masses and equally seen as undoable to the former regimes and their apologists.

In Bauchi State, indubitably, there was huge budgets and resources pushed to the state but ironically no signs of development and projects executions to justify and compensate the monies gotten and spent by the administrations, while worker’s salaries are paid at wish and at a time decided by the power that be. No doubt that, the government of Gov. Abubakar had inherited a huge debt and liabilities with accrued backlog of worker’s emoluments. Behold the change regime and Barrister Abubakar’s led administration where salaries are paid before the month end and projects are all over the state cut across all the sectors of the state economy. The governor has been putting all his best to serve the people of Bauchi State to the best of his ability, despite the glaring economic challenges in the country occasioned with dwindling revenue.

It’s disheartening and unfortunate that, some selfish individuals are still pretending blind to all the remarkable progress and development recorded in the state under the administration, simply because they weren’t given latitudes and chances to do as usual by the Gov. Abubakar’s not business as usual stamp adopted in the state to checkmate financial recklessness and bring prudent management of the state’s resources. Thank God! The masses that gave him the mandate are generally appreciating the effort of the indomitable governor.

Feeling sidelined and schemed out, some hoggish politicians in the state were seems to be behind some of the sponsored campaigns against the governor and his administration both within the conventional and mushrooms media platforms and creating Balkans Politics in the party. Despite the governor’s olive branch to the warring factions and the committee’s efforts on reconciliations, the Abuja based politicians have proven nagging and their attitudes could be the last kick of the dying horse as 2019 is coming and one can imagine how a political office holder who chooses Abuja as his constituency would come back to ask people to vote for him again?

One can ask, what may have been the major causes of their worries and efforts in sabotaging M. A. Abubakar, despite his tremendous achievement and cogent efforts towards making Bauchi state the best for all? Some political analyst opined that, Gov. Abubakar has done perfectly good in all ramifications in the whole sectors of the economy in the state, but the only place where he was caught erred is that, he couldn’t surrender the Bauchi State’s resources to selfish politicians to squander it as the normal ritual in the fast administrations. Despite the glaring achievements and viable projects by the Barrister Abubakar’s stewardship, some selfimposed elites in the state who also see themselves as the owners of the state have been always doing what they could to see the down fall of the Governor due to some selfish interest and pathetically against the interest of the state as the whole.

In essence, it is high time the Abuja based politicians to know that, their voting units are in Bauchi and respective constituencies not Abuja, and the party they are trying to destroy was the same party that gave them its platform to be where they are today. They should embrace and accept the reality and the fact that, His excellency, Governor Muhammed Abdullahi Abubakar (Makama Babba) is going to deliver his mandate and the masses are willing to renew the mandate in 2019.
