I’ve forgiven soldier who killed my daughter – Father

- From Jude Owuamanam, Owerri

Pa Hyginus Ekezie, the father of 15-year old Queenderline Chinatu Ekezie, who was allegedly killed by soldiers in Imo State, has said he left the fate that befell his daughter in the hands of God.

Queenderline Chinatu Ekezie, a JSS3 student of Command Day Secondary School, Obinze, Owerri West local government area of the state, reportedly slumped under exhaustion while being frogjumped by a soldier attached to her school.

The teenager, along with others, had arrived late to school and while being punished by the soldier, slumped and was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Pa Ekezie told Daily Trust in his family house in Amanchi, Umuoso in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state yesterday that he has received entreaties both from the army authorities and his kinsmen not to press charges.

Ekezie, flanked by his distraught wife, Appolonia, son, and other family members, said there was no way he could ignore the advice of his kinsmen.

“I want peace and I want everybody to speak peace. I and my family want peace to reign and since my kinsmen have advised me, I want to take their advice,” he said, adding that some army officers had visited him and his family.

Meanwhile, the Imo State government has launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the teenager.

Commissioner for Education, Mrs Gertrude Oduka, told our correspondent on telephone yesterday that a very senior officer in the ministry has been given the job.

Spokesman the Brigade, Col. Sagir Musa, could not be reached for comments. of
