200 persons benefit from NYSC medical outreach in Abia
About 200 persons from Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State have benefited from a recent medical outreach organised by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC0.
Tagged: Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, the programme is an initiative of the DirectorGeneral of the Corps, Brigadier-General Sule Zakari Kazaure aimed at enhancing accessibility to health care services.
Members of the corps, comprising medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists and laboratory scientists were on ground to conduct medical screening, examination, test and sensitization campaign, sharing of drugs and mosquito nets to the elderly with support from VICAR Hope Foundation and the State Ministry of Health.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Francesca Ifon, said the programme is aimed at utilizing the skills of corps medical personnel towards reaching out to the less privileged in the society.
Dr Ekhoragbon Andrew, who is the President Medical and Health Services Community Development Service (CDS) said, “In the past few months, our team of professionals with a burning desire to reach as many people as our resources would permit have taken medical intervention schemes to select communities.”
He appealed for support, which may come in form of cash donations, drug donations, test kits, sphygmanometer, measuring scales and Health information charts
