UniAbuja to retain First Class graduates — Prof Adikwu
The Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja, Prof. Michael Adikwu said some of the students who graduated with First Class will be retained, while others would be encouraged to create jobs elsewhere.
Prof. Adikwu disclosed this in Abuja ahead of the 22nd convocation ceremony holding tomorrow.
He said 7,148 students will be awarded certificates from which 16 are first class degrees, 507 are second class upper, 3,143 are second class lower, 3,160 are third class and 180 had pass grades. There are 242 higher degree certificates consisting of 91 Post graduate diploma holders, 78 Masters Degrees and 73 with Doctorate Degrees.
Adikwu said the university at the convocation will award honorary degrees to the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Historian, Late Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi and Alhaji Dikko A. Aliyu for contributing greatly to the progress of the nation.
He said late Dr Usman did so much in the Nigerian education sector and has influenced minds in Nigeria and that it is expected that his friends will build a History centre for the university.
For Pastor Kumuyi, he said besides establishing over 21 secondary schools and presently the Chancellor of Anchor University, Lagos, he is expected to build a mathematics centre for the institution, while Alhaji Dikko has a Science school and is expected to contribute to the university.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that the pre convocation lecture with the topic, “The Role of Science and Technology in the Scheme of things of Universities of the 21st Century” will be delivered by Dr Umar Bindir, a former Chief Executive officer of NOTAP and now Secretary to the government of Adamawa state.
