-

Visit My Mosque Day took place on Sunday, February 18 with 200 Muslim places of worship across England visited by non-Muslims to learn about Islamic teachings and origins.

#VisitMyMosque Day, facilitated by the Muslim Council of Britain, was initiated to promote understanding and break down barriers.

In Waltham Forest, North East London, members of Faith Communities Forum including chairman Wendy Smith and the Rev Cllr Paul Braham visited six mosques where they met with worshippers and guests.

Noor ul Islam mosque in Leyton High Road welcomed 200 visitors who were given tours of the new building which includes a women-only floor. Visitors were also invited to listen to live recitation of the Quran and explore the Discover Islam exhibition.

Harun Khan, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain said: “Muslims across the UK are yet again sending a strong message that despite what the headlines say, we are open, engaging in dialogue and positively contributing to British public life.”

Dar Al Islam Foundation in Cricklewood, also welcomed Brent MP Dawn Butler and council leader Muhammed Butt.

Ms Butler, shadow minister for women and equalities, said “Events like this are so important in bringing the community together.”

“Events such as this continue to break down barriers and I look forward to continuing to work with many groups from across the borough to tackle all forms of hatred,” she added.
