Kebbi collaborates with NAFDAC, NDLEA to fight illicit drugs
The Kebbi State Government said it was collaborating with the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) to protect the state from illegal and substandard drugs.
Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu said this during the Drug Awareness and Advocacy organised by the state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.
He said his administration has embarked on measures to curtail the spread of illicit drugs among youths.
“We cannot support the youth on drugs because they are supporting us politically; no matter how relevant they might be to us we cannot not allow our youth to engage in drugs,” Bagudu said.
In response, NAFDAC Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, said her agency would support Kebbi.
She said the absence of NAFDAC at the country’s ports has been one of the problems bedevilling its effort to free the society of illegal drugs importation.
Earlier, wife of the governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, who spoke on behalf of the Northern Governors Wives, said they collectively focused on drug abuse in their respective states.
“As mothers we cannot fold their arms and watch children being destroyed by drugs,” she said.
