Inter-tribal marriages good for Nigeria’s unity – Lalong
Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has urged families and institutions to encourage inter-tribal marriages, saying it has tremendous potentials of boosting the nation’s unity and peaceful coexistence.
He spoke weekend in Jos, the Plateau State capital, at the wedding ceremony of Captain Ambore of the Nigerian Army and his heartthrob, Deynum, the daughter of Adams Jagaba, member representing Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency of Kaduna State in the House of Representatives.
The governor said there is no better way of understanding and respecting each other’s differences like inter-tribal and inter-ethnic marriage.
He said through the couple, Captain Ambore from Gombe State and Deynum from Kaduna State, both states can by extension learn more about each other’s cultures, peculiarities and specialities.
Lalong said he just returned from the wedding ceremony in Kano State where Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje married off his daughter Fatima to Idris, the son Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He said such rare gestures should be encouraged across all communities and among all classes and levels of people in the nation.
Those who attended the Jos wedding included Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, National Assembly members, military officers, among others.
