Lokosa scores again as Kano Pillars reclaim top spot

Kano Pillars yesterday defeated new comers, Go Round 2-0 at the Sani Abacha stadium to reclaim leadership of the Nigeria Profession­al Football League.

The top dogs, Plateau United, Akwa United, MFM and Enyimba FC, Pillars were not in action due to continenta­l engagement­s.

Although he missed a spot kick in the first half, leading goal scorer Junior Lokosa made amends when he scored five minutes from time to make it two for Pillars and ten for himself.

Alhassan Ibrahim scored in the 58th minute to put the former champions on their way to victory.

Pillars now have 20 points same as Lobi Stars but are on top on superior goal difference.

In Nnewi, Lobi Stars shocked Heartland 1-0 to claim their second away win of the season. Their leading scorer, Kadiri Samad scored the only goal in the 25th minute.

Nasarawa United also topped the north-central derby in Lafia as they defeated neighbours Wikki Tourists 1-0 with Mohammed Suleiman the goal scorer.

Former champions Enugu Rangers bounced back from their 1-0 loss at Plateau United to earn a point in Akure where they were forced to 1-1 draw by Sunshine.

Ifeanyi George gave the visitors the lead in the 28th minute before Nojeem Raji equalised for the home side in the 43rd minute.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors failed to make use of their numerical advantage as they were forced to 0-0 draw by Niger Tornadoes.

Tornadoes goalkeeper, Nwakanma got the marching order for assaulting a ball boy at half time.

FC IfeanyiUba­h also got a vital away point in PortHarcou­rt where they were forced to 1-1 draw by Rivers United.

Although Onyekachi Chidume gave the ‘Nnewi millionair­es’ the lead from the spot, Salefu Ochowechi scored five minutes from time to level scores.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors defeated Kwara United 1-0 to add to the pressure on Coach John Obuh who was recently handed a three-match ultimatum.
