Buhari, Saraki, Al-makura mourn ex-Nasarawa gov, Doma
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday sent condolences to the government and people of Nasarawa over the death of the immediate past governor of the state, Aliyu AkweDoma.
Buhari, in a statement by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, commiserated with the family, friends and community members of the leader who served the nation as a civil servant for many years and rose to become a permanent secretary.
The president affirmed that Doma, who also served as a deputy governor in the old Plateau State, worked assiduously for the country as a member of the Presidential Joint National Consultative and Advisory Committee of Traditional Rulers and Leaders of Thought (19951998) and the National Committee on the Future of Higher Education in Nigeria (1996-1998), amongst others.
On his own, Senate President, Bukola Saraki expressed grief over the death of the Akwe Doma in an Israeli hospital on Tuesday at 75.
Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, described Doma as a committed public servant who served the country in many capacities with distinction.
Also, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state described Doma’s death as a monumental loss to the state and the country, saying he was an architect of unity and peace.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Musa Elayo, Al-Makura said the elderstatesman was a point of reference for stability, consensus and nation building.
On its part, the Nasarawa state House of Assembly said the demise of Akwe Doma was a colossal loss.
Speaker of the House Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who addressed newsmen in Lafia over the death, said, “We the members are urging the family and the people of the state not to be depressed but to be courageous and have faith in God over this great loss.”
