Violence in Kogi Central District distressing – Group
A group, Ebira Youth Congress (EYC), has expressed worry over what it described as resurgence of political intolerance and violence in Kogi Central Senatorial District in recent times.
The President General of the EYC, Comrade Baba Abdulrasak, said in a statement that the recent attacks targeted at some opposition politicians particularly in Okene and Okehi local government areas was a call for concern.
The association said that the recent disruption of an empowerment programme organised by Senator Ahmed Ogembe by some suspected political thugs who unleashed mayhem on innocent people and subsequent sundry harassments/attacks of other opposition elements in the area needed to be investigated and perpetrators brought to book.
“We are distressed by the sudden, repulsive and highly questionable stoppage of a planned reception for the retirement of a highly revered elder statesman, Justice Moses Bello from active service; the disruption of Senator Ogembe’s empowerment programme and its concomitant damaging effects on the properties and business of Afims Hotels; the reportedly unprovoked attacks on elements of opposition parties across Okehi LGA; the desecration of Ebira tradition and the resultant death of the tortured night masquerade custodian, Mr, Akobe, all in a couple of days back are too grave to be dismissed,” the group said.
