How ICT supports learning
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has said the appropriate use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) can improve teaching and help students learn at their own pace.
In a statement, the minister’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Chinenye P. Ihuoma, said the minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, made the remarks at the official commissioning of Cisco UNITeS-established Internet of Things (IoT) Innovative Centre at the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Bwari.
The minister said ICT had transformed the education delivery system from being the transmission of information by the teacher as the custodian of knowledge to the learner as the receiver of the knowledge and the school from being teachercentered to student-centered.
He disclosed that the Federal Government had approved Cisco Network Academy to establish the Internet of Things Innovative (IoT) Centres which was basically to connect people, processes, devices and data in six federal unity colleges in the six geo-political zones. The FSTC Yaba centre has already been established as the pilot.
The colleges to benefit from the IoT project are Queens’ College, Lagos, Federal Government College, Kano, Federal Government College, Bauchi, Federal Government College, Enugu, and Federal Government Girls’ College, Benin.
Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Musa Dikko, who was at the occasion, pledged support for the college.
