IPAC redundant in Bauchi — Opposition parties

- From Balarabe Alkassim, Bauchi

Opposition political parties in Bauchi State have alleged that the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) is not discharging its responsibilities in the state.

The State chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hamza Akoshi Akuyam, said unlike what obtained in other states, IPAC was not functioning in Bauchi.

Akuyam based his claim on the fact that the essence of establishing IPAC was to, among other things, bring together the ruling party and the opposition.

“Unfortunately, the Chairman of IPAC is from the ruling party, unlike in other states that the chairman comes from the opposition. So, you don’t expect it to be effective in Bauchi State.

“Since he was elected as IPAC chairman, no meeting was held in the state ever since and no invitation has reached us. We cannot reach him either because there is no IPAC office in the state,” he said.

On his part, the Bauchi State Secretary of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mahmood Babamaji, said IPAC existed only at the national level; and was specifically hijacked by the ruling APC in Bauchi.

However, the the Organising Secretary of APC in the state, Abdulkadir Gyan Gyan, said the ruling party and IPAC leadership were doing what was desirable for the state, saying that was why there was no much noise among the political parties.

Gyan Gyan said the leadership of IPAC was working and that an election was conducted in which all the political parties in the state participated.

He said some people were just making baseless and unfounded accusations against his leadership.

Also, the IPAC Secretary in the state, Musa Mato, said the body had full leadership structure in the state.
