Safety: FG commences certification of Kano airport
The Federal Government has commenced certification of the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) with a view to improving safety and efficiency of operations.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after signing of agreement with the management of Airport Council International (ACI) yesterday in Kano, the Director, Airports Operations of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabi’u Yadudu, said the Federal Government and ACI had entered into agreement for certification of Nigerian airports to improve safety in air transport.
Yadudu said already the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, had been certified, while processes for certification of Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Enugu airports had begun.
He added that Nigeria was able to certify two airports; Abuja and Lagos, within nine months, thereby becoming the first country in Africa to certify two airports so far.
He said, “Airport Council International (ACI) is a non-profit making body working in all the airports in the world, providing guidance, information and assistance towards improving operations in terms of security and efficiency.”
Yadudu added that after the one-week auditing on MAKIA’s facilities, the ACI personnel would also train FAAN personnel.
