- From Richard P. Ngbokai, Kano

Adismissed sergeant of the Nigeria Police Force has been arrested for allegedly leading a group of armed robbers to attack a Kano guest house belonging to the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

Our reporter gathered that the dismissed officer, Sani Danjuma, attached to Jigawa State Police Command, had served as guard duty at the said guest house while in active service.

He is said to have conspired with three others to attack the house carting away a BMW car valued at N11 million and an undisclosed amount of money.

He is said to have disarmed the policemen on guard duty at the guest house of an AK47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition. Parading the suspects yesterday, Kano State Police Command spokesman, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said the guest house was attacked on March 18 at 9:30pm.

He said “information via a good Samaritan was intercepted at Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Kano, that armed robbers with dangerous weapons attacked the guest house of the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State located along Okashatu close off Hadejia road where they attacked the policemen on guard duty and confiscated one AK47 rifle.”

He added that “the rifle No: 26594 was loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.”

He said upon the receipt of the information, the state Police Commissioner, Rabi’u Yusuf, immediately ordered the Anti-Robbery Squad to swing into action, which led to the eventual arrest of the suspects, all of whom are residents of Sultan road, Nasarawa GRA in Kano metropolis.

Majia said the suspects confessed to the crime, and led detectives to their hideout where the loaded police rifle and BMW car and other weapons were recovered.

He added that investigation was in progress to trail the remaining members of the syndicate who are currently at large. He said those arrested would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
