FG urged to assist displaced Irigwe people
The Federal Government has been urged to prevail on its relevant agencies to assist Irigwe people in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State whose houses and farms were destroyed in recent attacks.
A former House of Representatives member from the affected communities, Hon Lumumba Adeh, who spoke to Daily Trust on the attacks launched by suspected herders on villages in the Bassa LGA, said, “Government has not done enough to take care of people who lost their houses and lost their resources and their means of livelihood. A lot of these people are farmers whose crops were about to be harvested when their farms and homes were destroyed.”
He said “The culture of living in IDPs camps is not common with these people, so they are scattered all over the place among relations and it is a huge challenge because the relations are mostly people who were struggling on their own already to make ends meet.”
Lumumba who represented the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency between 1999 and 2003, urged the legislators representing the affected communities to attract the attention of government to the suffering of the people.
